FAQs

1. How do I know if counselling is right for me?

People come to counselling for many reasons — from feeling overwhelmed or stuck, to wanting a deeper understanding of themselves or their relationships. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit.

2. What happens in the free consultation?

The free consultation is an informal opportunity to talk briefly about what’s bringing you to counselling, ask questions, and get a sense of how I work. There’s no obligation to continue.

3. What happens in the first counselling session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other in more depth. We’ll explore what’s brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping for, and how we might work together, at a pace that feels right for you.

4. Do I need a diagnosis to access ADHD-informed counselling?

No. You don’t need a diagnosis. Many people come to counselling because they recognise ADHD traits in themselves or their relationships and want understanding and support without labels.

5. How does ADHD-informed counselling differ from traditional counselling?

ADHD-informed counselling recognises differences in focus, emotional regulation, motivation, and processing. Sessions are flexible, compassionate, and adapted to how your mind works, rather than expecting you to fit a fixed model.

6. Can counselling help with relationship or couples difficulties?

Yes. Couples counselling offers a space to explore communication, conflict, emotional connection, and recurring patterns, helping each person feel heard and understood while working towards healthier ways of relating.

7. Is counselling confidential?

Yes. Counselling is confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions that are explained clearly at the start, such as concerns about safety. Transparency and trust are central to the work.

8. How long will I need counselling for?

This varies from person to person. Some people come for short-term support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy. We’ll review this together as we go.
